Ninomiya Shungo is an average high school student who lives at home with his older sister Ryouko. However, Shungo’s life changes when a cute girl named Tsukimura Mayu arrives on his school grounds in a military helicopter. It turns out that Ryouko sent her, along with her older brother Mikihiro, to live in their home.
However, the newly arrived siblings are quite peculiar: Mayu is actually a succubus, and her brother is an incubus. To make matters worse, Mayu suffers from androphobia – a fear of men. Shungo, at the behest of her sister, is to help her overcome this problem.

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun (2007) – Audiovisual design

AIC Spirits studio is responsible for the animation. It wasn’t until I added the relevant tag to my database (being sure that I had already added it) that it occurred to me how many sub-studios AIC owns. The whole project gave the impression of being rather done at cost (or it was an inadequately managed project). Nevertheless, I can’t say that Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun is an ugly anime. By no means. I really liked the character design. In particular, I am referring to the eyes. Which time do I repeat that I miss the design of the 2000s?
The animation at key moments is surprisingly good, but there were quite a few off-model scenes in the first episodes. To put it in simpler terms – I had the impression that the perspective was poorly rendered. It was not glaringly obvious, but it was noticeable. Environmental backgrounds in outdoor locations were very pleasing to the eye. Indoor areas were quite generic.
Audio
In the two lead roles one of my favorite voice actresses. Kadowaki Mai as the clumsy Mayu and Sawashiro Miyuki as the ojou-sama tsundere Reika. Well, and I won’t cheat here, even though I was rooting for Mayu, I have a weakness for Reika’s character. When I hear the watakushi and the sentences ending with desuwa, I…. the picture below will express it better:
The soundtrack contains quite a few tracks that interested me. I will probably explore it more thoroughly in the near future. The songs from the opening and endings performed by the voice actresses were catchy, although the opening was not from a genre that would be on my playlists every day.
Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun (2007) – Plot and Characters
Introduction
The nostalgia factor plays a large role in the reception of Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun. Nostalgia not for the actual series, but rather for a series of this type from the mid-2000s. These simply have to be felt. Although I won’t hide – I found the first three episodes (or rather, 2, 3 and 4) a bit tiring. However, from episode to episode I grew more and more fond of the characters. On top of that, some secrets and details from the past of the main characters finally began to be revealed.
The whole thing was interwoven with a reasonable amount of action, a fair amount of enjoyable fanservice and comedy. There were also more serious moments and drama related to the feelings and the very health situation of the main protagonists. Around the tenth episode I had a thought – well, finally, this is exactly what I was waiting for. I’m almost certain that the source material executed the story much better, but I still had a very enjoyable time watching Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun.
A quick look at the plot and characters
Ninomiya Shungo, Houjou Reika and Tsukimura Mayu are childhood friends. Both Reika and Mayu have had a secret crush on Shungo. Mayu, although shy, had no major problems embracing her feelings. Reika is a tsundere ojou-sama. She runs a huge global corporation, has incredible economic knowledge and tops the school rankings. However, this does not help her in the emotional sphere. She finds more and more reasons for denial, while at the same time she so desires to stay close to her friend that she agrees to become a maid in his mansion. Although there is an added element of jealousy too.
Shungo himself does not remember his childhood years, as certain events caused him to lose his memory. Therefore, Reika is simply a classmate to him, and Mayu is someone completely new. Both are well aware of this, as they know exactly what caused it. Besides, it was the incident that triggered Mayu’s androphobia. Shungo, at the insistence of her older sister and Mikihiro (her older brother), is supposed to help her overcome it by doing all sorts of training, which Reika gets mad at.
Other remarks
As is often the case in anime, even though the whole thing has a rather comedic overtone, it’s not hard to guess from the very beginning that all the (often ridiculous) real-life situations are meant to prepare the viewer for the more serious themes. Were these serious themes well executed in Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun? Both yes and no. I feel a lot of untapped potential here.
The original Light Novel of the same title has 17 volumes. I have no idea how many volumes were crammed into these twelve episodes (little information about this can be found online), but I assume quite a lot. The action began to rush hard as more interesting plots emerged. Unfortunately, it was precisely the pace in the final episodes that prevented me from getting appropriately caught up in the drama. On the other hand, Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun – as a comedy performed well. Of course, the voice actresses played a big role in this.
It is also worth noting that the first minutes before the opening were a series of short, interconnecting stories. Stories that are difficult to place somewhere chronologically in the plot, yet connecting partially to themselves. They include dealing with Reika’s small breast complex and vice versa for Mayu. Such a small detail, but it added quite a bit of variety to the whole.
Evaluation and summary
If you are a fan of such atmospheres – in my opinion it is worth spending some time watching this anime. Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun is by no means something outstanding, but on the other hand it is really enjoyable to watch. Especially if you dose yourself with the whole thing properly (by the way, I’ve never been a fan of binge watching). I can’t deny that the last episodes raised it by one point after all. I would love to watch something similar in the future. Unfortunately, the pool of titles of this type from those years is slowly depleting for me. I’d be happy to get some recommendations to consider.
