The autumn is long forgotten, and greyness has taken over the landscape outside. That is a sign it’s time to curl up under a blanket with a mug of hot tea and see what the Winter 2026 Anime season has in store for us.
I won’t lie—after 2025, which spoiled us with an incredible number of excellent productions and set the bar high, the current start of the season feels a bit… disappointing. The new releases aren’t as captivating as I’d hoped, and my watchlist is much smaller than usual. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel warming my heart during these frosty days: the schedule includes sequels to two series I’ve been impatiently waiting for. We’ll see if Winter 2026 can make up in quality for what it lacks in quantity.
Fall Season Summary
At the very beginning, a brief summary of the previous season. I recommend that you read the linked post, as here I will list in a nutshell the best summer series, which I would consider a waste to omit. The final commentary and rating of each series listed can also be seen in the aforementioned post on the previous season. If I have decided to review a particular title individually, it will be linked below.
- Tomodachi no Imouto ga Ore ni dake Uzai
- Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari II
- Bukiyou na Senpai.
- Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka
- Towa no Yuugure
- Egao no Taenai Shokuba desu.
- Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun
Disappointment of the Season?
- Chanto Suenai Kyuuketsuki-chan – byłem przekonany, że seria wciągnie mnie o wiele bardziej niż stało się to w rzeczywistości. Czegoś mi tu zabrakło.
Preliminary expectations for the Anime Winter 2026
I’d like to note that this post will be updated as the first episodes premiere. As always, you can expect descriptions, my personal opinion, and screenshots, so I recommend checking back frequently. The PVs (preview videos) can be found under the next heading.
I’m slightly changing the format of my preliminary expectations. There is now a bit more information available, presented in a more readable way. After the first episodes air, the section below will be hidden behind a spoiler tag, as per usual. My commentary will only appear for premieres or sequels where there is something new worth mentioning (like a change in studio or voice actors).
Preliminary expectations for the Anime Winter 2026
[Oshi no Ko] 3rd Season
Studio: Doga Kobo
Source: Manga
Genres: Drama, Romance, Mystery, Idol
Famous Voice Actors: Han Megumi, Igoma Yurie, Iwami Manaka, Ookubo Rumi, Ootsuka Takeo, Takahashi Rie
My Comment: Alongside Medalist, this is unquestionably my most anticipated return of the season. Doga Kobo set the bar incredibly high with the previous installments, and after the events of the second season, the story moves into even more interesting plotlines. The all-star cast, led by Takahashi Rie and Iwami Manaka, is a guarantee of top-tier quality in this case. An absolute must-watch for me.
Medalist 2nd Season
Studio: ENGI
Source: Manga
Genres: Drama, Sport
Famous Voice Actors: Aihara Kotomi, Ichinose Kana, Itou Mao, Kayano Ai, Ootsuka Takeo, Tanaka Minami
My Comment: My second main favorite of the season. The manga is phenomenal, and I have high hopes that Studio ENGI will once again rise to the occasion with this adaptation, as the first season was simply phenomenal—something I already wrote about in my review here. On top of that, there is the exquisite cast.
Mayonaka Heart Tune
Studio: Gekkou
Source: Manga
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Famous Voice Actors: Hanazawa Kana, Itou Miku, Ookubo Rumi, Seto Momoko, Suzushiro Sayumi, Yasuda Rikuya
My Comment: Definitely one of the three new releases I’m waiting for the most. The cast is impressive—Hanazawa Kana, Itou Miku, and Suzushiro Sayumi in a single title is reason enough for me to watch.
Kirei ni Shitemoraemasu ka.
Studio: Okuruto Noboru
Source: Manga
Genres: Slice of life
Famous Voice Actors: Koshimizu Ami, Suzushiro Sayumi
My Comment: Another new release at the very top of my anticipation list. It promises to be a warm and pleasant story. Although Studio Okuruto Noboru doesn’t have a huge portfolio yet, the participation of Koshimizu Ami and Suzushiro Sayumi significantly raises my expectations regarding the sound direction and atmosphere of this production.
Osananajimi to wa Love Comedy ni Naranai
Studio: Tezuka Productions
Source: Manga
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Famous Voice Actors: Serizawa Yuu
My Comment: The third of my go-to among the new titles. The classic childhood friend trope is something I rarely get bored of. Tezuka Productions has plenty of solid series under their belt, so I’m hoping for a successful adaptation.
Seihantai na Kimi to Boku
Studio: Lapin Track
Źródło: Manga
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Famous Voice Actors: Suzushiro Sayumi, Taniguchi Yuna
My Comment: A title to check out, about which I’ve heard several positive opinions regarding the original manga. I’m interested to see how Studio Lapin Track handles it, as I haven’t seen any series from them yet. The cast—with Kusunoki Tomori on board—encourages me to give this series a chance and see if it actually stands out against other romances this season.
Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu.
Studio: Studio Deen
Source: Light novel
Genres: Action, Suspense
Famous Voice Actors: Kawaguchi Rina, Minase Inori
My Comment: This series lands on the list more as a test run. The suspense genre combined with action from Studio Deen sounds intriguing (even though I’m generally not a fan), though their production quality can be hit-or-miss. The presence of Minase Inori is definitely a plus. If the atmosphere is right and keeps the tension high, this could be a very pleasant surprise of the season.
Eris no Seihai
Studio: Ashi Productions
Source: Light novel
Genres: Mystery, Supernatural
Famous Voice Actors: Azakami Youhei, Fukuyama Jun, Hanae Natsuki, Ichimichi Mao, Ichinose Kana, Suzushiro Sayumi, Uchida Maaya
My Comment: Another production from Ashi Productions that I’ll check out of curiosity. Supernatural themes and mystery are a combination that usually bodes well. Additionally, we are dealing with a really strong cast here (Fukuyama Jun, Hanae Natsuki, Uchida Maaya), which makes my expectations—while not sky-high—inclined towards closely following the premiere.
Android wa Keiken Ninzuu ni Hairimasu ka??
Studio: Nyan Pollution
Source: Manga
Genres: Yuri, Sci-Fi, Erotic
Famous Voice Actors: Hayase Marika, Kurikoma Komaru, Shimizu Ayaka
My Comment: A quite specific title that I’ll check mainly because of the unusual blend of genres. I’m not expecting anything outstanding, but I am curious to see what comes of it. Studio Nyan Pollution is a complete unknown to me, so out of curiosity—I’m throwing it on the list.
Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi
Studio: asread.
Source: Light novel
Genres: Drama, Supernatural
Famous Voice Actors: Amamiya Sora, Fukuen Misato, Horie Yui, Inoue Honoka, Ishikawa Yui, Kayano Ai, Oonishi Saori, Ueda Reina
My Comment: A series added a bit as an “afterthought,” though I must admit the voice cast here is downright absurdly good—Horie Yui, Ueda Reina, Amamiya Sora, Ishikawa Yui, Kayano Ai, Inoue Honoka, and Oonishi Saori are the absolute top tier. The plot concept involving a teacher in a school for supernatural beings is usually a hit or miss for me (leaning towards the latter), but as long as studio asread delivers (which they sometimes do), it could be interesting.
Two more things:
- Why do I always start descriptions with the visuals? The answer is simple—it’s usually the first thing we see, and especially in the case of first episodes, it’s what sticks in the memory.
- Why don’t I describe/watch Series X? It’s so great and all. I don’t know what will be a commercial hit right now, but if I didn’t list it in my post, it means this anime doesn’t interest me at all. I don’t list such series because it’s a waste of my time to watch them—and by extension, I don’t recommend them—because, as I’ve mentioned many times, I only recommend what actually interests me.

Leftovers from last season:
Information about the content of the Anime Winter 2026
Once again, I would like to remind you of the fact that descriptions, pictures, and my opinions about the Anime Winter 2026 will appear on a regular basis as the first episodes are released. Order of descriptions below = order of episode premieres. The full schedule for the Winter 2026 anime season can be found here, for example.
As in the entry for the previous season, under the description of a particular anime will appear my rating (according to the scheme available below) after the first and last episode of the Winter 2026 Anime season:
Yes – I believe that the production is noteworthy.
Not quite –In the case of the first episode, it usually means that not enough of the plot was shown in it to recommend the series. In the case of impressions after the last episode – the series is average and can be skipped.
No – I don’t recommend it, it’s a waste of time.
As always, I’ll also report on the quality of the translation. If there’s a better alternative to the official subs from Crunchyroll or Funimation (and thus SubsPlease) for a given series, I’ll make a note after the first episode.
Insights, screenshots and reviews – Anime Winter 2026
Osananajimi to wa Love Comedy ni Naranai
Sakai Yonosuke is a high school student who devours romantic comedies yet approaches reality with a healthy dose of cynicism. He is convinced that the “childhood friend romance” trope is pure fiction and that the line between him and the girls he grew up with will never be crossed. The problem is, his daily life keeps playing out like a series of textbook rom-com scenes—scenarios he tries to ignore at all costs.
The biggest test for his nerves comes in the form of his two childhood friends, who have blossomed into attractive young women over the years. Minamo Shio is an energetic, charming girl with absolutely no sense of personal boundaries; she climbs through his window unannounced and regularly engineers “accidental” physical close encounters, hoping to spark a romance. Then there is Hiodoshi Akari—now a trendy and popular student—who treats him with the hostility of a classic tsundere, shamelessly calling him a creepy pervert. In reality, however, she is desperate for his attention, resorting to aggressive flirting and jittery attempts to steal a first kiss.
Yonosuke tries to survive his commute and the chaos of the classroom, clinging tightly to his belief that their relationship is purely platonic. However, his resolve is slowly starting to crack. Despite his stubborn insistence that they are just childhood friends, Shio and Akari have no intention of giving up—their goal is to make his heart race and turn his life into a real romantic comedy.
Do I recommend it after the first episode? Yes – the premiere definitely exceeded my expectations. It’s shaping up to be a great, old-school comedy in this genre. On top of that, the visuals are simply beautiful. The character designs for the girls are adorable, and the attention to detail—especially their facial expressions—is impressive. It also features a really solid opening theme. I can’t wait for the next episodes..

Mayonaka Heart Tune
Yamabuki Arisu is a second-year high school student and heir to the wealthy Yamabuki Group who considers himself an absolute perfectionist. Convinced he has already achieved 99% perfection, he transfers to Furin High—a school recently converted to co-ed—to find the missing 1% that will make him complete: love.
However, his search is no accident; he is looking for a specific girl named Apollo, the host of the late-night radio show Mayonaka Heart Tune. During his lonely days at his previous school, her voice was his only solace. In one of her final broadcasts, they made a promise to pursue careers in voice work together. Using his intellect, Arisu deduced her location based on her wish to attend a school with an ocean view, pinpointing Furin High as her hiding place.
Do I recommend it after the first episode? Yes – I knew this series would be right up my alley as soon as I watched the PV. The show turned out even better than I expected. Each of the heroines has her own charm, the main plot gimmick isn’t something you see often, and I am definitely looking forward to the next episodes.

Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu
Yuuki, a seasoned professional who has survived 28 consecutive Death Games, wakes up in a mysterious building alongside five novices—Kinko, Kokuto, Beniyi, Momono, and Aoi. They have all been gathered to participate in an escape game where failure means death. With no supplies, the group must navigate a labyrinth filled with deadly traps—such as buzzsaws and hidden trapdoors—to find the exit, win their freedom, and claim a cash prize.
Yuuki immediately takes command, adopting an altruistic playstyle under the pretext that saving others increases her own chances of survival in the long run. However, she bluntly warns her companions that she might secretly harbor ill intentions and could use them as human shields.
Do I recommend it after the first episode? Yes – the whole thing was really interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Plus, the voice acting is great, and the direction is very good. My only complaint, however, concerns the visuals. The animation didn’t look good—distant shots were done in 3D with characters moving quite strangely, while close-ups avoided movement altogether. That said, the close-ups of the characters’ faces looked very nice and weren’t lacking in detail like most of the other shots. I have very mixed feelings about the animation presentation. On one hand, the whole thing seems polished, but on the other—something is missing.

Seihantai na Kimi to Boku
Suzuki is a loud and incredibly sociable high schooler who is constantly surrounded by friends like Yamada, Watanabe, and Satou. Her complete opposite is Tani—a quiet guy with glasses who speaks his mind openly and refuses to read the room or suck up to anyone.
Although Suzuki constantly pesters Tani in public with trivial questions—which he ruthlessly shuts down with a total lack of interest—deep down, she is desperately in love with him. She admires his ability to stay true to himself. She notices that he never changes his behavior without a valid reason, which she finds incredibly admirable, especially when contrasted with her own tendency to constantly worry about how others perceive her.
Do I recommend it after the first episode? Yes – I didn’t expect the series to turn out this well. I am completely surprised by how good this starting episode was in so many respects. First—the animation. I really miss what was presented in this anime these days. It used to be the norm, but now you have to look hard to find such expressive facial expressions and emotions. It is simply a pleasure to watch it. Another point is the soundtrack, and again a return to what used to be commonplace but is now an almost forgotten art. The tracks used in the soundtrack stand out. They have character and demand attention. I also like the character art style itself. But the most important aspects—voice acting, directing, and the characters themselves—also do not disappoint. Suzushiro Sayumi shines in the role of the main heroine. To summarize—a brilliant start. I hope subsequent episodes will maintain this level.

Oshi no Ko Season 3
Sixteen-year-old Ai Hoshino is a talented and beautiful idol adored by her fans. She captures the hearts of the masses. She is the quintessential innocent young girl, possessing a magnetic personality. Gorou Amemiya is a countryside doctor and a huge fan of Ai. So, when the pregnant idol shows up at his hospital, he is in total shock. Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know that his encounter with the enigmatic figure that is Ai will lead to his untimely death.
Season 3
Do I recommend it after the first episode? Yes – it’s a great start with brilliant animation, visuals, and direction. In other words, business as usual. This time, even the opening turned out great (specifically the song choice)—last season’s was a real failure. Honestly, I didn’t expect anything less; Doga Kobo never disappoints. I am eagerly awaiting the next episodes.

Waiting for episode premieres.
Best Openings and Endings – Anime Winter 2026
It’s similar to the year-end recaps, namely – I recommend what I consider awesome in my opinion. Below is a list of my favorite songs from the openings and endings (all of them I consider noteworthy, but the ones I particularly love are marked in bold, while the ones I consider as even more outstanding are marked in green, bold font). The scheme is clear, but I will clarify it:
