Komeshiro Kasu – Girls Planet (Genkosha, 2022) – My Comment

The artbook, titled Girls Planet by Komeshiro Kasu, features mostly original illustrations by the artist. It counts 176 pages in A4 format. Printed – traditionally on high-quality, thick paper. At the very end of the publication you will find a step-by-step description of how the artwork seen on the cover was created. The same drawing, only in full version on two A4 pages, we can see in the artbook itself. At the end is an interview with the author, under which is a nicely realized timeline with examples of Komeshiro Kasu’s illustrations from particular years. The last pages are devoted to an introduction to the origins of the images we have previously seen and the years in which they were created including a brief description of each.

The quality of the print is more than satisfying. Colors look vibrant and the amount of detail is stunning. The lettering on the cover was done using thick hologram foil, which enhances the aesthetic aspects quite a bit and gives the impression of a premium product. I’ve been following Komeshiro Kasu for a long time on pixiv, so an artbook with his works in my collection was basically a matter of time. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any collector.

Nanao Naru – Rainbow-colored IceCream (2005)

Nanao Naru is an illustrator whose character designs have been used in many visual novels and their adaptations. These include Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two (and both Shaft studio adaptations), Sola, Da Capo, Canvas 2: Niji-iro no Sketch, Shuffle! and Wind -A Breath of Heart-. This artbook contains quite a few original illustrations that have appeared in various magazines or doujin circle publications founded by the author, Ice to Choco, but also some of the titles mentioned above. Sources for each drawing are given on the final pages.

Kantoku – Sailor Fuku no Mannaka Anthology (Wani, 2019)

Another Kantoku artbook in my collection. This time it's an anthology under his leadership with the theme of Japanese sailor school uniforms, or rather girls wearing them. The publication includes works by various artists, not just those of the initiator.

Kantoku – Imouto sae Ireba Ii. Art Works (Shogakukan, 2020)

This time, the review focuses on an artbook featuring the characters from a light novel called Imouto sae Ireba Ii. The visual part was handled by Kantoku. Most people probably know this title from the anime adaptation. Unfortunately, to put it mildly, it did not even come close to completing the source material. Nor is there likely to be any hope for a second season anymore.

Rurudo – Unreal (Ichijinsha, 2021)

Unreal is divided into four chapters. The first chapter features quite a few original illustrations by rurudo. Including one that was used to create a figurine depicting his character Eve LOVECALL in the exact pose from that illustration (which was scheduled for release last November, but only went on general sale a month ago).
