Xenoblade 2 – Official Artworks Alrest Record (Famitsu / Kadokawa, 2019) – My Comment
Xenoblade 2 is still my favorite game of all time. You can find my review of the original Japanese collector’s version here. There I describe in more detail why and take a closer look at how the Western version differs from the original. In every possible aspect. Although the artbook included with the collector’s version is really decently made and shows quite a lot, I couldn’t get past the publication that is the subject of this review. It counts 352 pages in A4 format in full color. This number of pages in such a large format makes the whole thing seem very massive and overflowing with content. Of course, this is not just an impression, this is indeed the case.

The subject matter of the illustrations contained inside are Xenoblade 2 and Xenoblade 2: Ougon no Kuni Iira (which came out as a DLC and a completely separate game). Artwork presented in the artbook is overflowing with color and detail. The whole thing is breathtaking to look at . Especially if you are so emotionally attached to this title (as I am)
It’s also worth mentioning that in addition to all sorts of scenery from the game world. Artworks Alrest Record includes extensive descriptions on almost all characters in the game. Full character designs are presented including prototype versions. So not just the main characters like Homura, Hikari, Nia, Kagutsuchi, Byakko, Tora, Shin, Yoshitsune, Metsu or Hana. For example, Homura’s character was considered with different hair colors (and hairstyles) and clothes.
The last section is devoted to various types of tips that are a sort of index of the conversations carried out in kizuna talk, a plot summary, lists of items or, finally, listing the full team that worked on the creation of this masterpiece production including the original Japanese voice actors.

Artworks Alrest Record is a must-have item for any fan of the game and. Due to its rich artistic value – can be a valuable part of the collection of any lover of Japanese artwork. I wholeheartedly recommend it – especially since the price in relation to what you get is simply great.
