Minami Natsuno & BJ – 1/8 – Juusan Kihei Boueiken (Kotobukiya, 2021) – My Comment

Introduction

Minami Natsuno is a character from the game Juusan Kihei Boueiken, known in the west as 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. As this is one of the greatest titles I’ve ever played, I can’t imagine not having at least one figure with a character from this masterpiece, which I wrote about in my long review here. While I liked all of the characters, Natsuno was the one that stuck out to me the most. I really liked her, along with her robotic companion BJ, who was also included in the set.

Minami Natsuno & BJ – 1/8 – Juusan Kihei Boueiken (Kotobukiya, 2021) – Workmanship

The manufacturer of the figure is Kotobukiya, so I wasn’t worried about the quality. I was more concerned about the fact that this is the ARTFX J series. It usually is intended for the western marke. I’ve found out more than once, figurines intended for the west by various manufacturers are simply lousy and differ significantly in quality from those released for the domestic market. Fortunately, nothing like that happened in this case and the whole thing looks great for its price range. Even the box has a very nice design and finish that gives the impression of a premium product. Minami Natsuno’s shading is very nicely done. The hair has no frayed ends, and the attention to detail (such as the deformation of the clothes) is impressive. It looks even better in person than in the photos.

Other remarks and summary

A nice addition is the fact that the distinctive START lettering (I won’t spoil) and BJ’s eyes are fluorescent (and they glow in the dark for a while, though I have to admit, quite faintly). The stand that the figure is mounted to is also a nice addition. It shows off a certain game plan quite well, and stands out strongly from the others in my collection.

Kurosaki Mea & Yami – To LOVEru Darkness (Max Factory / Pop Up Parade, 2022)

This time I decided to review two figures from the To LOVEru series because they were both released as Pop Up Parade and come from one - let's call it a collection (swimsuits). The Pop Up Parade figures are very popular due to their price, which is often lower than those released as Prize. It should be obvious that at such a price range you will not get anything outstanding with detail, meticulously performed quality control or detailed painting.

Takemoto Uruka – 1/7 – Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (Phat Company, 2022)

It's hard not to buy a figurine portraying your favorite character from a series, especially when the series itself is held in high regard. In addition, I am used to the quality of Phat! Company products, so I ordered this figure without a second thought.

Hoshii Miki – 1/7 Angelic Island ver. – THE iDOLM@STER (Kotobukiya, 2012)

Six versions of the Angelic Island figures were produced - Hagiwara Yukiho, Ganaha Hibiki, Takatsuki Yayoi, Amami Haruka and Hoshii Miki, the one covered in this post. Each was sold for ¥7800. This is a slightly higher standard of figures than the cheap Pop Up Parade figures popular in Poland.

Jougasaki Mika – 1/7 – THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls (Bandai Spirits, 2020)

The figure looks exceptionally well, especially if we take into account its price and the fact that it was released as a prize. Unfortunately, as is often the case with prize figurines, the quality control is not on a high level.
