Tokunou Shoutarou – Next Game!! (Houbunsha, 2021) – My Comment

I’ve loved Tokunou Shoutarou’s style ever since I read the first chapter of New Game!. A few months ago, while browsing pixiv, I noticed that an artbook titled Next Game was being released on September 27! Without a second thought I placed a pre-order. The package was shipped on schedule (the day before the release). I waited over a month and a half for it. It was only yesterday that the letter carrier showed up at my door handing it to me. I can’t remember the last time it took this long for a package shipped in Japan to arrive.

There is also a limited edition of this artbook (available on AmiAmi). I noticed it unfortunately after I’ve already placed the order in CDJapan. It contains additionally A6 size acrylic figure. Which, I admit, would be really nice addition, as I collect such figures as well. The artbook itself doesn’t differ from the standard version. It has 170 pages, great quality chalkboard paper and print (but this is rather standard).
As far as the content is concerned – I was given a chance to see exactly what the author has already managed to make me accustomed to. It’s colorful, sweet and the level of detail and quality of shading are impressive.
The whole thing is divided into four thematic chapters. At the very end as usual – quite an extensive interview with the author. Fans of his style as well as of New Game itself will surely be delighted. I consider the purchase very successful.

Tokunou Shoutarou – Next Game!! (Houbunsha, 2021) – Show off

Before I show a dozen photos of the artbook’s contents, a quick glance at the cover wrapped in a colorful, high-quality wrapper and an additional silver-colored obi.

This is what the back looks like, flowing seamlessly from the front (the whole thing forms one big illustration):

And this is how the artbook looks like without the wrapper:

New Masterpieces of 100 Eshi ver.4 (BNN, 2022)

Another part of the excellent artbook series. A collection of carefully selected title illustrations by one hundred (very well-known and respected) artists. The fourth edition in the series, is again published in B5 format.

Konbu Wakame – Soleil (Art Jeuness, 2023)

Konbu Wakame is the artist responsible for, among other things, the drawings in manga such as Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!, Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii and Sekai de Ichiban Oppai ga Suki! Although there is a bit of character scrolling on many pages, it is the heroines of these titles that Soleil puts in the foreground. It is, of course, about Jahy in two forms, Lilith and Chiaki. A nice touch is that many of the works depict the aforementioned heroines posing together.

Yabuki Kentarou – “Venus” To LOVEru Darkness (Shueisha, 2012)

Yabuki Kentarou - a creator who probably doesn't need to be introduced to most. Best known for his record-breaking popular manga To LOVEru. Venus is another collection of his illustrations from the continuation of that series, To LOVEru Darkness.

Fuzichoco – Sai Gen Kyo (Genkosha, 2020)

The publication contains 192 pages. It consists almost exclusively of illustrations printed on very good quality chalkboard paper. It features fold-out pages with, among others, characters from Fate/Grand Order, Touhou Project or Vocaloids, Onmyoji and Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou!
