Chocola Chinese Dress Ver. – 1/7 – Nekopara (Good Smile Company, 2022) – My Comment
Introduction
I’m not some big fan of the Nekopara series. I read the visual novel at a time when no one was talking about it yet, but since it was one of the most entry-level VNs I’ve encountered (even if we’re talking about the version with a proper patch), it somehow didn’t particularly stick in my head. However, that doesn’t mean it detracts from the visuals, which were really nice – including the character designs, of course. The figure featured in this review appealed to me outstandingly, which is why it ended up on the shelf in my detolf.
Chocola Chinese Dress Ver. – 1/7 – Nekopara (Good Smile Company, 2022) – Workmanship
Chocola in a Chinese dress (or in the original 華ロリVer. / hanaloli – which is another fashion subculture in Japan that focuses on Chinese dresses – you can read more about it here, if Japanese is not a problem) is a figure in the mid-range price range. It was priced at ¥16,000.
The attention to detail is already striking when you take it out of the box. The first thing that catches the eye is the quality of the painting. The outfit worn by Chocola has a lot of ornamentation. Starting with the dress, which already in the sculpt itself has a lot of detail laying on the body, and the beautifully done shading in painting only highlights this effect. Flowers are the ornaments, on which shading has also been applied in painting – wow. Considerable attention has also been paid to the fine detail of the hokisen, held in the right hand. In fact, the only thing missing for complete splendor is shading on her hair. But don’t forget the price range. You get a really great quality figure for its asking price.
Other remarks and summary
Unfortunately, I had a problem with seating the Chocola in the stand. I had to use quite a significant force and a hair dryer method (to make the material more malleable). Every time, I have to do something like this, my heart gets in my throat, because figures are easy to break. And damaging collector’s items is rather the last thing any self-respecting collector wants to commit to. In the end, it was able to place it in its intended spot. The figurine stands solidly in its place, so there is no risk that a slight poke will knock it over.
