Kantoku – Sailor Fuku no Mannaka Anthology (Wani, 2019) – My Comment

Another Kantoku artbook in my collection. This time it’s an anthology under his guidance with the theme of Japanese sailor school uniforms. Or rather girls wearing them. The publication includes works by various artists, not just those of the initiator.

Names such as Yom, 40hara, Mochizuki Kei, Kumanoi, Jonsun, Shigure Ui, Ohisashiburi and many others are featured here. The artbook is 95 pages in A4 format. It was published traditionally when it comes to anthologies of this type. At the very beginning we see a short introduction by the originator. The next pages are already devoted to the invited artists.

The left side features a full-page illustration. On the right is the artist’s nickname along with his Twitter username. There is also information about the origin of his work. We can also find a few words from the artist himself – more specifically, why he drew the navel in the way he did. At the very bottom of the page, the author’s handwritten signature is also visible.

Sailor Fuku no Mannaka was released in 2019, and the quality of the printing gives me nothing to complain about. The colors are crisp, the print resolution allows you to notice even small details. The variety of styles of the various artists is delightful. At the very end there is an interview section and a description of how the cover image was created.

Sailor Fuku no Mannaka Anthology is an excellent addition to the collection, featuring many beautiful illustrations by a wide range of artists. I am glad to have it in my collection. Especially since, in addition to Kantoku himself, I have been keeping an eye on many of the artists invited to this publication for quite some time.

Before moving on to the gallery, where you will be able to see some photos of the contents of the artbook, it is appropriate to show how it looks from the outside.

Ogipote – Aikyo Artbook (Kadokawa, 2021)

The artbook has 144 pages in B5 format. The content is divided into 11 thematic chapters. At the very beginning, the author greets us with an explanation of the meaning of the publication's title. Aikyo refers to a charming, enchanting nature or a nostalgic feeling. Enjoy the warm atmosphere of the artworks with unique, beautiful touches.

Kantoku – Imouto sae Ireba Ii. Art Works (Shogakukan, 2020)

This time, the review focuses on an artbook featuring the characters from a light novel called Imouto sae Ireba Ii. The visual part was handled by Kantoku. Most people probably know this title from the anime adaptation. Unfortunately, to put it mildly, it did not even come close to completing the source material. Nor is there likely to be any hope for a second season anymore.

Yabuki Kentarou – “Harem Gold” To LOVEru Darkness (Shueisha, 2016)

Yabuki Kentarou - a creator who probably needs no introduction. Best known for his record-breaking manga To LOVEru. This artbook is a collection of his illustrations from the continuation of that series, To LOVEru Darkness.

Urushihara Satoshi – Cell Works (Movic, 1994)

Urushihara Satoshi is a mangaka and illustrator known for his distinctive style and fondness for highlighting female breasts. His works were the basis for such anime as Plastic Little and Legend of Lemnear. He has also worked on character design for games such as Langrisser and Growlanser.
