The iDOLM@STER

Studio 765 Production gathers thirteen talented young girls with completely different characters who want to become idols. The owner sets his sights on making them nationally recognized stars. He hires a promising manager tasked with properly guiding the development paths of his future charges. The beginnings are not easy and most of the time the group of idols does nothing but train. This gives them a lot of free time, which they spend carefree with each other. However, nothing lasts forever. As they become more popular, the work and responsibilities begin to increase. Not until then do they realize how much sacrifice and dedication an idol’s career requires….

Oprawa audiowizualna The iDOLM@STER

The visuals of The iDOLM@STER are simply superb. Especially when you consider the fact of the number of characters appearing in the series, and simultaneously on screen. Great respect and kudos to A-1 Pictures studio for not using 3D animation for the scene appearances (well, except for the last scene in the film). At many moments, the animation was done really carefully and dynamically while maintaining a lot of detail. The backgrounds are also worth mentioning – in most scenes they looked simply sensational.

As for the audio side, I don’t know where to start. Imai Asami, Nakamura Eriko, Kugimiya Rie, Takahashi Chiaki, Hara Yumi, Hasegawa Akiko. If one is even slightly more interested in Japanese animation, one must be familiar with at least some of the quoted voice actress names. Here there is nothing to elaborate on, a class by itself. Each of the seiyuu (including those I haven’t mentioned here) has perfectly imbued their characters and given them their own character.

Musically – the soundtrack itself didn’t stand out for anything special. However, when I delved a bit into all the vocal compositions used in the series, as well as the Character Songs and Radio CDs – I was shocked at how much good and even sensational material there was (especially since I did the same after watching Love Live, where I found basically nothing interesting that deserved attention). It is literally an endless mine of material. You can read about how big this universe is here. It is impossible to draw attention to the number of songs used in the credits, of which there are…. 25 to be exact – each episode had a separate ending theme.

Wstęp

I had been planning to watch The iDOLM@STER for a long time (especially since I started watching with the TV premiere, but I don’t remember why I didn’t watch to the end), as I was aware that it stands out significantly from other titles about idols. The main difference between other series of this type is the lack of a clear distinction of the main character, around whom everything revolves. A considerable amount of time was devoted to each of the thirteen idols (by the way, an effort was made to ensure that they behave appropriately for their age and emotional maturity). As a result, we get to know the portrayed heroines well and quickly get to know them. Sure enough, Amami Haruka is subtly outlined as the main character. She serves as the glue of the whole – both of the 765 Production team and the plot. This is the kind of directing and world-building I like best, especially with such a huge number of actively participating characters. As for the characters, we get a whole range of diversity.

Krótko o fabule i postaciach

From the aforementioned somewhat clumsy and emotional, worrying about everyone Amami Haruka, extrovert Hoshii Miki, well-mannered (ojou-sama) but mouthy Minase Iori coming from an abominably rich family, shrouded in mystery Shijou Takane to tomboyish Kikuchi Makoto, the hyperactive Ganaha Hibiki, the very feminine, seemingly perfect older sister (onee-sama) Miura Azusa, the weepy and clumsy Hagiwara Yukiho or the optimistic, giving-it-all Takatsuki Yayoi and the amazingly vocally talented Kisaragi Chihaya. There’s plenty to choose from. The best thing about it is that such a difference in characters contributes immensely to the development of each character, as the heroines complement each other (and are simply able to see the world in different colors), so as a plot-device it worked just perfectly.

I’ve seen a lot of negative comments on the forums about the main antagonist of the series. I will not go into detail (to avoid unnecessary spoilers). In my opinion, such a one-dimensional, downright dim-witted antagonist fit perfectly as a caricature of the average producer soaring up the popularity ladder at the expense of others, including his rivals. I don’t think the scriptwriters’ creation of such a villain had any other purpose than just to show the problem with fake news and how it can ricochet back to those spinning such plans to get rid of the competition. Besides, even the names of the agencies were named in such a way as to portray them in black and white (literally!).

Materiał wchodzący w skład The Idolm@ster

Oprócz głównej serii liczącej 25 odcinków mamy bezpośrednią kontynuację w postacie jednego epizodu specjalnego (765 Pro to Iu Monogatari) przedstawiającego kilka scen z życia bohaterek w niedalekiej przyszłości po zakończeniu serialu. Następnie trzy odcinki OVA (The iDOLM@STER Shiny Festa) przedstawiające to samo wydarzenie w trzech alternatywnych liniach czasu. Na koniec film kinowy (Kagayaki no Mukougawa e!). Tam postawiono przede wszystkim na dramat związany z przyjęciem supportujących tancerek do największego jak do tej pory koncertu 765 Pro.

Ocena i podsumowanie The iDOLM@STER

Z czystym sumieniem mogę stwierdzić – The iDOLM@STER to zdecydowania najlepsza seria o tematyce idolek, jaką dane było mi oglądać i z pewnością zawsze będę ją dobrze wspominać.
